Boca Del Medio lies within the Los Roques Archipelago, a chain of coral islands and cays in the southern Caribbean Sea off the coast of Venezuela. The name refers to a channel or pass between cays, a common feature in this island group where boats move between the lagoon and the open sea. Divers here have reported elkhorn and mustard hill coral forming the site's structure, along with reef fish typical of the archipelago including queen, stoplight, and striped parrotfish, schoolmaster snapper, yellowtail damselfish, doctorfish, Brazilian ocean surgeonfish, and Atlantic blue tang.
