Cane Bay

Cane Bay is a shore diving area on the north coast of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, facing the Caribbean Sea. It is known for the Cane Bay Wall, a drop-off reachable by a short swim from the beach where the reef shelf gives way to a steep wall descending into deep water. The reef itself is rated a beginner dive to around 12 metres over a reef bottom, with visibility described as great and coral including greater star, lobed star, and mustard hill coral along the top sections before the drop-off continues further down. Parrotfish are common on the reef, and divers have also reported barracuda, bicolor damselfish, blue chromis, other damselfish, jacks and amberjack, wrasse, triggerfish, octopus, squid, sea turtles, stingrays, eagle rays, reef sharks, hammerhead sharks, and even dolphins around the site. Fire coral and sea urchins have been noted as hazards worth watching for. The shallower reef areas suit a range of experience levels, though following the wall down to greater depth is better suited to more experienced divers.
