Canyon I

Canyon I is a reef dive off Puerto Plata, on the north coast of the Dominican Republic facing the Atlantic side of the Caribbean basin. It reaches a maximum depth of around 18 metres and is rated an intermediate dive. The site sits within the reef and drop-off formations typical of this stretch of coastline, where the shelf gives way to steeper terrain not far offshore. Divers here have reported Atlantic blue tangs, Atlantic sergeant majors, and Caribbean ocean surgeonfish moving over the reef, along with purple sea fans on the structure itself. Sally lightfoot crabs, Caribbean land hermit crabs, and Atlantic ghost crabs have also been noted around the site.
