About this site
Casasa I lies in the Caribbean waters off the northern coast of Cuba, in Ciego de Ávila province, typically reached by boat from the cays and coastal settlements along this stretch of Cuba's northern shelf. Divers here have reported a varied reef community including Atlantic blue tang, sergeant majors, bluestriped grunts, bluehead wrasse, and purple sea fans, along with yellowtail snapper, schoolmaster snapper, and yellowtail parrotfish. Red cushion sea stars and thimble jellies have also been spotted on the site, pointing to a mix of reef fish and invertebrate life typical of this part of the Cuban shelf.
