About this site
Cheynes III lies in Frenchman Bay near Albany on the south coast of Western Australia. She was one of the Cheynes whale chaser boats that operated out of the Albany whaling station until it closed in 1978, and the vessel was later scuttled to form an artificial reef and dive attraction. The wreck sits in shallow, sheltered water not far from shore, making it accessible for recreational divers rather than a technical or deep dive. It has become a spot for encountering fish and other marine growth that has colonised the hull over the decades since sinking.
