Chikuzen

The Chikuzen is a wreck site in open water north of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. It was a refrigerated Japanese fishing vessel that caught fire and was scuttled in the early 1980s, settling on a sandy bottom well away from any island. Because it lies alone in deeper open water some distance offshore, it draws pelagic species passing through the area, and it is reached only by boat rather than from shore. The structure has broken up substantially over the decades, leaving a scattered wreck rather than an intact hull, with a maximum depth of around 25.9 metres and rated an advanced dive. The site can be exposed to the elements, a condition noted at times by divers who have been out to it.
