Choclassa

Choclassa is a reef dive site located approximately three kilometres off Santa Maria, on the island of Sal, Cape Verde. The site centres on a large plateau rising in open water, dived in a circuit around its perimeter. Depths run from 13 metres at the shallower sections to a maximum of 30 metres on the standard dive, with a deeper version reaching 40 metres.

The plateau holds an abundance of fauna and flora, with yellow coral polyps coating the reef and large aggregations of fish moving through the water column. Pelagic encounters are a strong feature of the site: sharks, tuna, Atlantic sailfish, trevallies, and manta rays are all recorded here.

Strong currents can be expected at Choclassa, and the site carries a difficulty rating of intermediate — suited to level 2 divers or level 1 divers with meaningful open-water experience. The boat journey from Santa Maria takes approximately 15 minutes.
