About this site
Close Encounters lies off the northeast coast of Bali, in the same stretch of water as the well known Liberty and Gili Selang dive areas near the Bali Sea. The site sits over a reef bottom with light current and a maximum depth of around 12 metres, making it a beginner dive suited to shallower, easier diving than some of the deeper sites nearby. Eagle rays, fusiliers, and tuna are regularly seen here, and whale sharks have also turned up at the site. Divers have additionally reported leaf scorpionfish, mantis shrimp, nudibranchs, scorpionfish, snapper, trevally, and triggerfish along the reef.
