About this site
Coronation refers to the wreck of HMS Coronation, a Royal Navy warship lost off Penlee Point near Plymouth Sound on the Devon coast in 1691 while returning from patrol duty. The site lies within the waters off Plymouth, a stretch of the English Channel long associated with naval history and shipping losses, and wreckage from the vessel has been located and surveyed here as part of maritime archaeological work along the south Devon coast. The site is shallow, with a maximum depth of around 7.6 metres, and is rated a beginner dive. Divers have also reported squid around the wreckage.
