About this site
The Corveta V17 (Ipiranga) is a scuttled Brazilian Navy corvette off Fernando de Noronha, an island archipelago off Brazil's northeast coast. It was sunk deliberately in the early 1980s to create an artificial reef and dive attraction, and it now sits upright on a sandy bottom in relatively clear water typical of the archipelago's marine park. The hull remains largely intact and is popular for penetration by experienced divers, with resident reef fish and occasional larger pelagics passing through. Depths run in the range of about 15 to 25 metres, making it accessible to divers with reasonable open water experience, though currents and boat traffic in the area call for some caution.
