About this site
Crystal Bay sits off Nusa Penida, an island southeast of Bali, and is a reef dive reaching a maximum depth of around 30 metres. It is rated a beginner site, though conditions there can be demanding, with strong and sometimes unpredictable currents, tide and swell dependence, and weather-dependent access, plus reports of strong down currents near the deeper section, thermoclines, undertow, and rapid cold water temperature drops. Visibility is generally great, and the site is best known for Mola mola, the ocean sunfish, which draw divers to this stretch of Nusa Penida, along with frogfish, mantis shrimp, nudibranchs, parrotfish, scorpionfish, and sea turtles. Divers have also reported angelfish, bannerfish, barracuda, bumphead parrotfish, butterflyfish, clownfish, fusilier, leaf scorpionfish, moray eel, reef sharks, seahorses, snapper, surgeonfish, and wobbegong on the reef.
