About this site
Appledore Island is the largest of the Isles of Shoals, a small archipelago straddling the Maine and New Hampshire state line a few miles off the mouth of the Piscataqua River. The island's granite shoreline drops into the cold, current-swept waters of the Gulf of Maine, and it hosts a marine laboratory run by Cornell University and the University of New Hampshire.
