About this site
The Edersee is a large reservoir in northern Hesse, Germany, created by the Edertal dam on the River Eder and completed in the early 20th century. It is one of Germany's larger inland lakes, surrounded by forested hills within the Kellerwald-Edersee region, and is a popular freshwater dive destination for landlocked divers in the area. The lake level drops considerably during dry periods, occasionally exposing the ruins of a submerged village near Berich, which divers can otherwise explore underwater when the reservoir is full. Diving here reaches depths of around 40 metres and is rated advanced.
