About this site
El Aguila is a wreck dive off Roatan in the Bay Islands of Honduras, a cargo ship deliberately sunk as an artificial reef that has since broken into several sections resting on sand along the island's fringing reef system. It is typically reached by a short boat ride from operators on Roatan's west or south side, and rated an advanced dive with a maximum depth of around 30.9 metres. Grouper are a regular sighting on the wreck, and divers have also reported eagle rays, garden eels, moray eels, nudibranchs, parrotfish, snapper, and stingrays around the structure. The broken and scattered hull calls for some care and buoyancy control when moving through its more open sections, and boat traffic and diver traffic at the site have also been noted as hazards.
