About this site
El Espigon lies off Isla de la Juventud, the large island south of the Cuban mainland, in the Caribbean Sea. Divers here have reported Atlantic blue tang, redband and striped parrotfish, bluestriped and French grunts, and schoolmaster snapper moving over the reef, along with blade fire coral and massive starlet coral forming part of the structure. Isla de la Juventud's surrounding waters are known for reef systems built on limestone shelves, and this site fits that pattern of coral cover and reef fish typical of the region.
