About this site
Elford Reef is an outer reef site on the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Queensland, northeast of Cairns, reached by boat on day trips from the Cairns and Port Douglas area. It forms part of the reef system's outer edge, with coral bommies and channels typical of this stretch of the Coral Sea approach. Diving here reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres and is rated a beginner site, making it accessible for less experienced divers. Divers have also reported jellyfish in the area, so it is worth keeping an eye out for them.
