Eterecolhu lies off Vihamaafaru in Ari Atoll, one of the larger atolls in the central Maldives, known for its channels and reef systems on both the ocean and lagoon sides. Sites in this part of the atoll are typically reached by dhoni or liveaboard from nearby resorts and island communities. Divers here have reported black pyramid butterflyfish, blue-headed wrasse, bluestreak cleaner wrasse, Indian bullethead parrotfish, Indian damsel, Indian redfin butterflyfish, powder blue tang, and sixband parrotfish among the reef's fish life.
