Express Samina

The Express Samina was a Greek ferry that struck the rocky islets of Portes off Paros and sank in September 2000, a disaster that killed dozens of passengers and remains one of modern Greece's worst maritime accidents. The wreck lies not far from the entrance to Parikia harbour, resting on a slope that runs from around 30 metres down past 60 metres, with the hull settled on its side. Because of that depth range and the exposed location, it is considered a technical or advanced dive rather than one for casual divers, and it is usually approached by experienced wreck divers on boat trips from Paros. The site is visited more for its history and scale as a modern wreck than for marine life, though the structure has begun to gather some growth and fish since it went down.
