About this site
Furnas lies along the volcanic coastline of Faial in the central Azores, where basalt terrain formed by past lava flows continues underwater as a wall. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 40 metres and is rated an advanced dive. Divers have reported eagle rays and grouper along the wall, set against the same lava-shaped landscape found above the surface on this stretch of the island.
