About this site
Garden Eel Cove sits off the Kona coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, near Kailua-Kona. It is one of the sites used for the popular manta ray night dives that this stretch of coastline is known for, with dive boats gathering after dark to use lights that attract plankton and draw in the rays. The cove takes its name from the garden eel colonies found on the sandy bottom during daytime dives. It reaches a maximum depth of around 18 metres and is rated a beginner dive, making it accessible to a range of divers, though the after-dark manta dives add an element that suits those comfortable with reduced visibility and orientation in open water.
