About this site
The G.B. Church is a former Canadian coast guard buoy tender deliberately sunk as an artificial reef off Portland Island in the Southern Gulf Islands, in the waters near Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The ship sits upright on the seabed and is a popular dive among Gulf Islands operators, with a maximum depth of around 20 metres, making it a beginner-friendly wreck by local standards. It is often visited alongside other Portland Island sites out of Sidney or the Saanich Peninsula. The wreck is encrusted with plumose anemones and other cold-water invertebrates typical of the Salish Sea, and divers commonly report the visibility as good by Pacific Northwest standards.
