George a Marsh

The George A. Marsh was a wooden schooner that sank in Lake Ontario in 1917 while carrying coal, and its remains lie in the eastern end of the lake near the Thousand Islands region of Ontario. The wreck rests in relatively shallow, cold fresh water, which has helped preserve much of its timber hull structure over the past century. Visibility in this part of Lake Ontario can vary considerably with season and weather. Divers exploring the site can typically make out the schooner's hull outline and deck features, giving a sense of a working sailing vessel from the early twentieth century Great Lakes trade.
