About this site
The Great Astrolabe Reef surrounds Kadavu and Ono Island in southern Fiji and is one of the largest barrier reefs in the world. Diving there covers a range of sites along the outer wall and passages, with soft coral growth and reef fish typical of Fiji's Kadavu Passage area, over a reef bottom rated as beginner diving. Manta rays are a regular sighting in the channels, and divers have also reported hammerhead sharks, mackerel, trevally, tuna, and even whales passing through the area. Access is generally by boat from resorts on Ono Island or nearby Kadavu, and conditions vary by site since tidal currents through the passes can pick up in places.
