About this site
Grotta di Nereo lies along the limestone coastline near Alghero, on the northwest coast of Sardinia, cut into the cliffs of Capo Caccia. It is known as one of the largest marine caves in the Mediterranean, with chambers and passages reaching well back into the rock and light fading quickly the deeper divers move inside. Verified figures put the maximum depth at around 21 metres, with the dive rated intermediate. The interior galleries still extend well back in length even where depth stays moderate, and local operators typically run guided dives from Alghero given the site's complexity and the low light and potential surge near the entrance.
