About this site
Halkett Wall lies along Gambier Island, one of the larger islands in Howe Sound northwest of Vancouver, British Columbia. The site is accessed by boat from marinas around Howe Sound, an area known for its steep, fjord-like underwater terrain, and the wall here reaches a maximum depth of around 16 metres. Divers have reported harbor seals, mantis shrimp, North Pacific spiny dogfish, nudibranchs, ochre sea stars, octopus, orca, quillback rockfish, and unicornfish along the site, though that last sighting is an unusual one for these cold Pacific Northwest waters.
