About this site
The Haven was a Very Large Crude Carrier that caught fire and broke apart off the Ligurian coast near Arenzano and Varazze in 1991, one of the largest oil tanker disasters in the Mediterranean at the time. Its remains now lie split into sections on the seabed off the Genoa coastline, sitting on a wreck bottom in deep water that keeps most of the hull well beyond recreational limits. The depth means the site is mostly visited by technical divers rather than as a casual outing. Marine growth has colonized parts of the structure over the decades it has rested there.
