HMS Hood

This wreck lies at the southern entrance of Portland Harbour on the Dorset coast, where the pre-dreadnought battleship HMS Hood was deliberately scuttled in 1914 to block the channel and protect the harbour. The hull sits upside down in shallow water, broken up over the decades, with parts of it exposed even at low tide. Depths are modest, generally under 20 metres, which makes it a popular site for training dives and for divers new to wreck diving. Visibility can be limited due to the harbour's silty bottom and boat traffic overhead, but the structure is substantial enough to explore over multiple dives.
