Homestead Crater

Homestead Crater is a geothermal limestone dome at Homestead Crater Resort in Midway, Utah, in the Heber Valley area of the Wasatch Mountains. A hole cut in the top of the dome lets divers and swimmers drop into the warm mineral spring inside, with water generally reported around 90 to 96 degrees Fahrenheit. The crater reaches a verified maximum depth of 18.3 metres and is rated a beginner dive, making it popular for certification and novelty dives rather than marine life or reef exploration. Because it sits at roughly 6000 feet elevation, it counts as an altitude dive, and light inside is limited since the crater is enclosed rather than open to the sky. Divers have also noted a thick layer of silt on the crater floor, so conditions can turn murky if it gets stirred up, even though the spring water itself is generally clear and calm.
