About this site
Il Portone lies off Golfo Aranci, on the northeastern coast of Sardinia in the province of Olbia-Tempio, near the Costa Smeralda area of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The site sits along the granite coastline typical of this stretch of Sardinia, where boat dives from Golfo Aranci and nearby Olbia are common. It is a wall dive reaching a maximum depth of around 33 metres. Divers have reported barracuda and grouper along the drop-off, along with occasional sightings of common bottlenose dolphins passing the wall, and yellow cluster anemone has also been noted on the rock face.
