About this site
Isaac Hale Beach Park, also known as Pohoiki, sits on the Puna coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, near Pahoa. It fronts a stretch of coastline shaped by lava flows from the Kilauea volcano, including the 2018 eruption that altered the surrounding shoreline and created a new black sand beach nearby. The park has long served as a boat launch and surf spot for the local community.
