About this site
Isla Holbox is a small island off the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula in Quintana Roo, separated from the mainland by the Yalahau lagoon. It sits at the point where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Caribbean, northwest of Cancun and Isla Mujeres. The surrounding waters are known for whale shark aggregations during the summer months, with boat trips heading out from the island's harbor to the feeding grounds offshore.
