The Jan Heweliusz is a Polish ferry that sank in early 1993 in the southern Baltic Sea after capsizing in a severe storm while en route from Ystad, Sweden to Świnoujście, Poland, with the loss of most of those aboard. The wreck now lies off the coast near Rügen in German waters, within reach of technical dive charters operating out of the Vorpommern-Rügen area. Given its position in open Baltic water at depth, it is generally treated as a dive for experienced and technically trained divers rather than recreational visitors. Cold water temperatures and limited visibility are typical of Baltic wreck diving in this region.
