About this site
Karpata sits on the northwest coast of Bonaire, north of the town of Rincon, part of the island's protected fringing reef system that drops into deep water just offshore. It is a shore dive reached down a steep slope to the water, marked by one of the yellow stone markers Bonaire uses to identify its dive sites. The reef here slopes into a wall along Bonaire's characteristic west coast drop-off, in an area with less boat traffic than the sites nearer Kralendijk. It reaches a maximum depth of around 40 metres and is rated a technical dive, with visibility generally excellent over the reef bottom. Divers have reported barracuda, lionfish, nurse sharks, reef sharks, and sea turtles around the site.
