About this site
Kate Bombers lies near Nago Island off Kavieng, at the northern tip of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea. The site is named for Japanese Mitsubishi Ki-21 bombers, nicknamed Kate by Allied forces, that rest in the waters around this part of the Bismarck Archipelago from the Pacific War. Kavieng is reached by boat from the town itself, a coastal hub on New Ireland's northern coast facing the Bismarck Sea.
