About this site
Kilsby Sinkhole is a limestone sinkhole on private farmland near Mount Schank in the Lower South East region of South Australia, close to Mount Gambier. It is known for exceptionally clear fresh water, often cited among the clearest in Australia, with visibility frequently exceeding 40 metres. The sinkhole opens into a large underwater cavern with steep limestone walls dropping to considerable depth, and it is used for both open water diving on the upper cone and technical or cavern diving further down. Access is restricted and controlled by the landowners, with dives typically arranged through local operators in the Mount Gambier area.
