Kovalam Reef lies off Kovalam, a coastal town on the Arabian Sea in the southern Indian state of Kerala, known primarily as a beach and coastal tourism destination. The reef sits just offshore from this stretch of the Kerala coastline, near the southern tip of the Indian peninsula, and offers a beginner dive to a maximum depth of around 12 metres. Divers have reported whale sharks passing through the area, though encounters are not a given. The site also carries some debris hazards, with ghost nets, plastic debris, and trawl nets having been noted in the water.
