About this site
Kungkungan House Reef sits in Lembeh Strait off the northeast coast of Sulawesi, Indonesia, in front of the Kungkungan Bay Resort area at Kungkungan Bay. The strait is a narrow channel of black volcanic sand between the Sulawesi mainland and Lembeh Island, reached directly from shore or by short boat rides from resorts along the bay. The reef here tops out at a shallow 5 metres, with light current and a reef bottom, making it a beginner-friendly dive. Octopus are a reliable find, and divers have also reported a long list of muck and reef species including frogfish, ghost pipefish, mantis shrimp, nudibranchs, scorpionfish, and a mix of reef fish such as angelfish, damselfish, sweetlips, and parrotfish, along with occasional passes from eagle rays, barracuda, and tuna.
