About this site
L'Herminie was a French frigate that ran aground on the reefs off the west end of Bermuda in 1838 while returning from Cuba. The wreck lies scattered across a reef area near Southampton parish, with cannons and anchors marking much of the site, since the wooden hull itself has long since broken down. Depths are shallow to moderate, generally in the range divers associate with Bermuda's western reef sites, making it accessible to a range of experience levels. It draws divers more for its history and artifacts than for marine life, being one of the older documented wrecks in Bermudian waters.
