La Canna

La Canna is a submerged rock pinnacle off Filicudi in the Aeolian Islands, north of Sicily, rising from deeper water toward the surface and marked historically by a metal rod that gave the site its name. It is one of the better known dive sites in the Aeolians, with the pinnacle attracting large pelagic fish and dense gorgonian growth along its walls. Depths range from shallow water near the top of the rock down past 40 metres along its flanks, and currents sweeping across the pinnacle are common. Because of that current and the depth of its more interesting features, it is generally considered a dive for experienced divers rather than beginners.
