About this site
La Jenelle lies just offshore Santa Barbara, California, in the Santa Barbara Channel, marking the site of a shipwreck that ran aground near the harbor breakwater in the 1970s. The wreckage now extends to a technical depth of around 79.2 metres, well beyond the shallow inshore remains often associated with the grounding. Surge is a confirmed hazard here, and divers have also reported current, algae blooms, limited visibility, thermoclines, and open sea conditions, with live boating sometimes required to work the site. Barracuda, mackerel, and nudibranchs have been spotted among the wreckage as well.
