Lake Atitlán is a large volcanic crater lake in the Guatemalan highlands, ringed by the volcanoes San Pedro, Atitlán, and Tolimán, and bordered by towns such as Panajachel and San Pedro La Laguna. The lake sits at a high elevation, its waters filling a deep caldera basin that reaches around 230 metres, making it a technical dive. Divers have reported underwater hot water springs and signs of volcanic activity beneath the surface, a reminder of the lake's origins in the same volcanic system that still forms its shoreline.
