Lake Phoenix is a rock quarry set up for recreational diving, with relatively warm water and good visibility.
A large shallow area averages about 20 feet (6 m) deep and has plenty to swim to, including sunken boats, cars, a school bus and a small basketball court with bowling balls for basketballs, which makes it good buoyancy practice. In deeper water a helicopter sits at about 40 to 45 feet (12 to 14 m) and a plane at 60 feet (18 m). Platforms scattered around the quarry make useful visual references for skills practice. Bass are plentiful.
