About this site
Lake Sakakawea is a large reservoir on the Missouri River in North Dakota, formed by the construction of Garrison Dam and stretching well upstream toward the western part of the state, with Bismarck lying downriver near the Missouri's confluence area to the south. It is one of the largest man-made lakes in the United States by surface area, bordered by prairie and badlands terrain rather than coastline.
