Leopoldville

The Leopoldville was a Belgian troopship sunk on Christmas Eve 1944 by a German U-boat while ferrying American soldiers across the English Channel toward Cherbourg, with heavy loss of life among the troops aboard. The wreck lies off the Normandy coast in the waters near Cherbourg, in the Calvados area of the Channel. It rests at depth on the seabed and is considered a demanding technical dive, both for its distance offshore and for the depth at which it lies, and is generally visited by experienced wreck divers rather than recreational groups.
