The Mar Egeo was an oil tanker that ran aground near the entrance to A Coruna harbour on the coast of Galicia, Spain, in December 1992, spilling part of its cargo along the shoreline before breaking apart. The wreck lies close to the approach to the port, in the exposed waters off this stretch of the Galician coast known for Atlantic swell and strong currents. Divers visiting the area are dealing with a coastline shaped by open ocean exposure rather than sheltered conditions.
