About this site
New Britain sits in the Bismarck Archipelago of Papua New Guinea, with the town of Rabaul and its volcanic caldera on the island's northeastern tip facing the Bismarck Sea and Simpson Harbour. The waters around this coast saw heavy Japanese naval activity during the Second World War, and numerous cargo and support vessels from that period are scattered through the surrounding harbours and channels.
