About this site
USAT Meigs lies in Darwin Harbour off the coast of the Northern Territory in northern Australia. It was a US Army transport ship sunk during the Japanese air raids on Darwin in February 1942 and now rests on the harbour floor as one of several wartime wrecks in the area. The site has a maximum depth of around 17 metres and is rated a beginner dive. Darwin Harbour is known for strong tidal currents and low visibility, which shapes how and when these wrecks can be dived, and access to the wreck is generally arranged through local dive operators familiar with the tidal windows.
