About this site
The Mesudiye Wreck lies in the Dardanelles strait near Çanakkale in northwestern Turkey. It is the remains of the Ottoman battleship Mesudiye, an armored vessel originally built in the 1870s and later modernized, which was sunk by a British submarine torpedo attack in December 1914 during the Gallipoli campaign. The strait here is a busy shipping channel with strong currents, conditions that shape any dive on the wreck. The site tops out at a maximum depth of around 10 metres, but despite the shallow figure it is rated an advanced dive, a reflection of the current and traffic in this stretch of the Dardanelles.
