About this site
Mt. Storm Lake is a reservoir in Grant County, West Virginia, created to provide cooling water for the adjacent Mount Storm Power Station operated by Virginia Electric and Power Company (Vepco), from which the site takes its name. The lake sits in the Allegheny Mountains region of the state's eastern panhandle area. Warm water discharged from the power plant keeps parts of the lake from freezing even in winter, a feature tied directly to its industrial function.
