MV Captain Keith Tibbetts

The MV Captain Keith Tibbetts is a former Soviet Koni-class frigate sunk deliberately off the north coast of Cayman Brac in 1996 to create an artificial reef. The ship is roughly 100 metres long and lies broken into two sections, a result of Hurricane Ivan in 2004 further shifting the wreck after it was first sent down. The site now sits at a maximum depth of around 20 metres, over a wreck bottom, and is rated an advanced dive. Divers can still make out gun turrets and missile launchers on the hull, and the structure has grown a covering of sponges and corals that attract reef fish along with the occasional turtle. It sits close to a sheer wall drop-off typical of the Cayman Brac shoreline, making it a common pairing with wall dives on the same boat trip.
